There is so much uncertainty today. The economic and social impacts that this pandemic has created in our city will last years, past the end of physical distancing, impacts we can’t even yet recognize. Decisions have been difficult, not only for all levels of government but for employers of large/small businesses, the development community and for many groups and organizations.
For me it has been difficult understanding that I am not able to visit my family, friends, colleagues when I want to. That I will not be able to run my regular route in the park, attend an event, go on a vacation or to a cottage. We are all learning to work/school from home, how to be patient as well as flexible while looking for new opportunities and ways to do what we once took for granted.
What is your contribution to the solution?
However, I am heartened to see industries retooling to produce ventilators, face masks, shields, PPE. I love hearing about community groups coming together to sew masks for front-line workers. I admire the courage and cheerfulness of our grocery store workers as they deal with the challenges of the few places that all of us are permitted to attend. WE CAN DO THIS. WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS. This country, each community has skills, talent and options to contribute to the solution, not just in the short term, but after. The companies that are retooling will have the necessary plans to jump into action if we ever face this again. The community networks and bonds being forged in the fire of physical distancing can remain when it is time to remove those walls and continue the work started. I applaud each and everyone of you that is providing a contribution to the solution.
And by the way, it is still not acceptable to leave your doggy bags all over the place, to drop your synthetic gloves on the ground and speed on our roads. It never was and it isn’t now.
WHAT IS YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO THE SOLUTION?
If you have ideas, let me know. We can work together to build solutions and community. We will be stronger moving forward. Call me at 226-927-0439, email at email@example.com.
